Description
A 237-mile 345 kilovolt (kV) transmission line and associated facilities running from Brookings County, South Dakota, to Hampton, Minnesota. The project began operation in 2015.

Project Summary
The Commission issued a route permit for the 237-mile Brookings County to Hampton 345 kV transmission line in 2010, and the line was fully energized in 2015.
In November 2023, the CapX2020 Brookings Owners (Applicants) submitted a minor alteration application to the Commission seeking to install a second 345 kV circuit along two segmetns of the existing Brookings - Hampton 345 kV transmission line. The proposed change would happen on the 59.5-mile segment between the Brookings County and Lyon County substations and on the 39-mile segment between the Helena and Hampton substations. The Applicants have also applied to the Commission for a certificate of need for the project in August 2023 under Docket 23-200.
The Applicants indicated that the Project is needed to relieve current transmission congestion in this area. The Applicants plan to place the Western Segment in service by September 1, 2024, and the Eastern Segment in service by September 15, 2025.
